Bring a farmhouse feel to your meals with these rustic wooden placemats. Cut from Western Hemlock log slices and sanded for a smooth finish, these live edge wood placemats keep the unique shape of the tree from which they were cut, making them stunning for home decor. The wood log slices have a variety of uses such a great base for a wedding centerpiece, a wooden tray for condiments, a trivet, candle plate or even a cake stand or plant stand. The possibilities are endless! They have also grown very popular for rustic wedding decor.
These placemats are handcrafted by Damien Devereux, a determined artisan who is registered blind. All wood is kiln-dried timber, sourced from a local sustainable woodland. Kiln dry wood is much more stable and unlikely to warp as it ages.
Placemats come in a variety of different diameters and are approximately 25-30mm thick. The diameters offered are only approximations and will differ depending on the size and shape of the tree. If you require specific sizes then please get in touch. To ensure their durability for outdoor use, the placemats can optionally be treated with clear exterior oil or coloured varnish (red cedar, dark oak or ebony) to protect the wood, though these will need re-coating with a protective clear coat once a year for longevity.
Splits in the log rings sometimes form during the drying process and these splits have been filled with a clear epoxy resin and my latest batch have been fully coated. This does make me a little more expensive than competitors but this ensures my products have the structural and environmental durability to last a lifetime. The bark is not always present because it sometimes comes loose during construction.
