Live Edge Elm Place-mat/Table Centrepiece/Plant Stand

Add some rustic charm to your home with these Wych Elm place-mats. Elm's are rarely found as mature trees in the UK any more due to the devastating effects of Dutch Elm disease so when Mother Nature blew this one over I knew I wanted to utilise its stunning potential and it did not disappoint! These place-mats are therefore of a limited stock, once they are gone they are gone.

Everything is handcrafted by Damien Devereux who is registered blind, with over 5 years experience as a carpenter. All wood is kiln-dried and sourced from a local sustainable woodland. Kiln dried wood is much more stable and unlikely to warp as it ages.

The wood slices are approximately 25mm thick and available in 3 different average sizes. Some are oval in shape as they follow the natural form of the log from which they were cut making them great for home decor, rustic wedding decor or crafts. The Elm has a beautiful open pore grain and characteristic ingrown bark features. You have the option to purchase them untreated or they come up absolutely stunning when coated with a clear oil as you can see from the photos.  

Not all the place-mats managed to hold onto their bark during the kilning process so they may come with full, partial or no bark. However it was good to see that very few of them developed drying splits, only those that feature a knot or bark inclusion.
If you would like the wood slice engraved then please specify the name/message when you order. This is done by hand with a pyrography tool to give a personal and rustic touch.
